The planning for Santa’s visit around Newborough and surrounding villages prior to Christmas was completed at the end of the general meeting.
7. Funding applications
The committee was advised that it is not possible to apply for funding from Dewi Gough Jones until April 2010.
More information is needed from Waste Management Services, CC re waste bins and the number of these per head of village population before agreeing on any application to Tidy Towns. The patch of land outside the gates at EB, currently an unpleasant area due to dog fouling, was discussed; possibly the TT grant might go towards transforming this area; CJB to approach CC for their comments. £500 funding available from TT.
Parc y Plant
Visitors from Cardiff and London and local Play officers met with DH/CJB, Glenys Williams and Mike Webb at Parc Y Plant to see the condition of facilities for children and young people of Newborough. Issues discussed were the history of the park, insurance paid for by Parc y Plant, grass cuttings and the “about to be signed” lease. Feedback from the visitors was very positive; they agreed that the park is the best kept on the island and it made an amazingly good impression on them. It was suggested that more up to date play equipment might be installed via the Fair Share grant and Mike Armitage, Play Specialist is to get back to PYP committee with his recommendations. LW queried the joint application for the grant and it was agreed that as there will be information relating to CNC/EB it was appropriate for MW to go ahead with the application for funding in the region of £30k. RR reported that although broken bottles are found at PYP, there is currently no vandalism.
8. AOB
(i) The completed 2007/08 Annual Review and 2008/09 Business Plan will be stored in the top drawer of the filing cabinet in the office at EB for directors/committee members to view
(ii) The locks on the gates next to the play area at EB to be permanently locked to stop wear on the hinges as a result of continual and unnecessary opening.
(iii) The coat rack standing by the fire door near the main entrance at EB has been broken. The young person involved in this has been warned and has forfeited his next session at the drop-in group on Thursday. It is possible the rack can be repaired.
(iv) It was agreed that prior to the Santes Dwynwen event (24th Jan 09) the hall should be decorated with appropriate decorations eg bright colours, heart shapes etc. To be discussed at next general meeting
(v) Llanddwyn WI is proposing to go carol singing around Newborough on Wednesday 17th December with a view to putting monies collected towards a local project ie the external signage at EB. LW to contact the local paper to advertise the carol singing as well as other items
